I’m Carmen, a Perth-born and raised littérateur, former party pants turned natural health fanatic and philosophical marketer.
My corporate communications and marketing career spans eight-odd years, mainly working part-time while side-hustling my freelance copywriting business, Scribe Cartel, since 2017 (I’m still growing into the name).
I took a break in 2021 after a tumultuous couple of years, including moving home to Perth from Melbourne at the end of 2020. I lost my networks, creative mojo and purpose for a while.
Since then I refreshed my brand, launched a new website, found awesome new clients and partners, and created an online mini-course.
Because I love storytelling and long-form copy, websites, blogs, and eNews are my jam.
Writing was always my calling, but I took the long road to do it for a living, ignoring my inner yearnings, instead serving in retail, administration, and insurance broking. No experience is irrelevant, in my belief.
I volunteered for any writing opportunities in every role. Reports and policies – let’s do it.
Spare time was spent writing for pleasure.
Poetry. Short stories. Spoken word.
Special occasion speeches – I was your gal (speaker, ghostwriter, proof/editor).
Family and friends said they loved getting my emails when I lived abroad.
The Public Service in a departmental Secretary’s office gave me my break in offering me a secondment with the communications division.
That opportunity changed everything.
In 2018 I completed a Professional Writing and Editing Diploma at RMIT to develop and formalise my skills.
Alongside the manifold of companies, products and services I’ve written freelance for, I’ve led communications campaigns across non-profit, state and local government, aviation, and an oil distributor.
I’m Perth-based and available internationally.
